The One Hundred Year Old Man...
An hilarious book that will leave you laughing out loud (I did), it deserved my rating of 4 out of 5.

This is the first book I’ve reviewed where I’ve given it 5 stars. It really is that good.
But don’t take my word for it, buy a copy and let me know what you think.

QANTAS FLIGHT 9: MEL TO SIN
Melbourne (MEL) to Singapore (SIN) QF9
6088km/3780mi to go: I’m in 54C, an aisle seat just in front of the wing. The plane is filling, fellow passengers going
through their pre-flight rituals, books here, bags there, snort salty water, earplugs
at the ready. ‘Please place your bags in
the overhead lockers or under the seat in front of you. Cabin crew prepare cabin for departure…’
I feign interest in the safety briefing.
Do they really think the brace position will make a difference as we
spiral into the ground from 42,000 feet?
‘Your life jacket is under your seat… If oxygen is required, masks will fall from
above. Fit yours before helping others…’ I wonder if anyone else knows it takes about
five seconds without oxygen to blackout at 35,000 feet.

Book Review: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
8 DECEMBER 1995. PARIS, FRANCE: Jean-Dominique Bauby, the editor of Elle magazine, kissed his girlfriend goodbye. He greeted the driver of the car he was testing and climbed in. He told the driver about his weekend’s plan and arranged to be collected after work, to go and pick up his son. By the end of the day he was an hour late, and as they drove out of Paris, they battled the Friday afternoon traffic.
That day was the last of Bauby’s “normal” life.

Book Review - er
Last week I answered a callout for writers that read. Now most successful writers/authors recommend
reading as an essential pastime for all writers, so I was surprised to see the
stipulation. Further enquiries explained
the prerequisite: it turns out Arts Hub
want to expand their review section
Okay, so I read, I write, I’m opinionated… it sounds like
the perfect gig! There’s always a catch,
though. There’s no budget, so there’s no
actual payment with hard coin/currency/folding stuff — not even digital
transaction — but the combination of two of my favourite words was just too
much to resist. The words: ‘FREE’ and
‘BOOKS’.
Free books! How good
is that.
Arts Hub’s National Reviews Editor asked for a sample review
of the last book I read, so I had a crack and he must have liked it, because
he’s given me a trial. I’ll post my
sample review here and when (if?) I get a review published I’ll let you know.
